MMTCP welcomes committed practitioners who are ready to deepen their practice while learning to guide others. Here's what we're looking for in applicants.
Practice Requirements
Minimum Two Years of Regular Meditation Practice
You must have maintained a consistent meditation practice for at least two years and continue to practice regularly.
What "regular practice" means:
- You practice meditation consistently (most days of the week)
- You have an established personal practice, not just occasional meditation
- Your practice is ongoing and active
Ongoing Practice
You're currently practicing meditation, not just someone who practiced in the past.
Readiness Requirements
Called to Teach
You feel genuinely drawn to sharing mindfulness with others—whether in your existing profession (therapy, healthcare, education, coaching, social work, business) or through new offerings in your community.
You don't need to have teaching experience or know exactly how you'll teach. We're looking for a genuine calling, not a detailed plan.
Ready for Inner Work
You possess the emotional and spiritual maturity to:
- Engage in honest self-reflection
- Explore your own growth edges
- Receive constructive feedback with openness
- Work with challenging emotions and experiences that may arise
Important: MMTCP is a teacher training, not a therapeutic program. If you have a history of significant trauma or mental health challenges, you should have active support from a qualified mental health professional before and throughout the program.
Embrace Inclusive Teaching
You're willing to thoughtfully examine how social conditioning around race, gender, class, ability, and other dimensions of identity shapes your perspective and impacts how you teach and relate to diverse students.
Prerequisites (Due June 30, 2026)
All accepted students must complete two foundational experiences before the program begins:
1. The Power of Awareness Online Course
A self-paced course created and taught by Jack and Tara that provides essential training in developing and sustaining a daily awareness practice.
2. One Qualifying Silent Meditation Retreat
A 5-day/4-night silent retreat in the vipassana or Insight meditation tradition.
You can apply before completing these. If accepted, you'll have until June 30, 2026, to fulfill both requirements.
What We're NOT Looking For
You do NOT need:
- Teaching experience
- A specific professional credential
- Advanced degrees
- Prior meditation teacher training
- Perfect answers to application questions
We're looking for genuine commitment, depth of practice, and readiness to grow—not credentials or experience.
No Age Requirements
MMTCP welcomes students of all ages. We've had students in their 20s through their 80s.
International Students Welcome
The program is fully online and accessible from anywhere in the world. We have students in 70+ countries.
